How to Commission a Project
If you are considering a custom project, you have probably spent some time looking for something you just can't find. You can, however, dream, right? Through a friendly, collaborative process, you will have the advantage of truly customizing your project. My aim is to find the best design solution within your criteria, while providing the highest level of workmanship.
The first step in commissioning work typically begins with a site visit and a discussion about the goals and budget requirements for your project. It's helpful to know these things early on so that I can reasonably assess my ability to complete the work within time and cost expectations. For small or medium sized projects, I can usually make a determination promptly, giving you a close estimate free of charge. Larger projects, such as kitchens or bathrooms, may call for a down payment to cover the design time and construction planning needed to provide an accurate price or to fit budgeting needs.
There is a sharing of ideas before arriving at a final design. Once the drawings and proposal are agreed upon and signed, we are ready for work to commence! The design fee will be deducted from the total project cost, and a payment schedule and project timeline will be determined. If for some reason the project does not go forward and the design time was spent, you are welcome to any construction drawings. However, the design fee is typically non-refundable.
In general, I try to carry out one project at a time in order to keep a strong focus and maintain efficiency. There may be times when orders overlap and the shop will host various projects at different stages of completion. I always aim to provide the highest-quality product while meeting deadlines, and I appreciate your understanding that reasonable pauses in workflow may occur.
