This table's form grew out of the surrounding themes and decor in the clients' home. Stripping away all ornamentation, we arrived at a simple-looking, elegant design that complements their other furniture. The straight sides of the table share corners with the curved ends, making a square leg seem wrong. Instead these legs are parallelogram-shaped allowing a sensible and flowing connection around the corners. Each curved apron was steam-bent from a solid piece of wood, before cutting the angled mortise and tenon joints. The long sides have a sweeping arch that "kisses" the main apron, providing strength while allowing extra legroom underneath. A delicate string inlay made of dark Cedar borders the table top to help define its shape.
